EFFECTIVE PROMOTION

This is the most important part in a business website. Promotion, promotion and promotion. And effective promotion is a must, because through promotion, our products and services would be requested.

There are various ways for business website promotion. Most of them require no cost.

1. Search Engine

This is the right spot to have effective promotion. The biggest problem also arises, when you have to determine how to make your website listed in the top 10 lists of the search engine.

Using only keywords would not guarantee that your website would be listed on the top 10 lists. You must find more specific keywords, and you must use them in every single website that you have.

Title Tag & Meta Tag

These tags are placed between the <head></head> tags. There is the right way to write things to be encoded inside those tags.

Don't just write a word that is the same as the keyword we have encoded. Take an example of this website, I do not write the word “Business” only. I name it “The Secrets of Internet Business”. You must be alert about it, because if we just name it as “Business” only, the search engine would recognize it as a spam. At the end of the day, you will find that your website is not listed in the top 10, but ending up blacklisted.

There is one more tip to write the title tag. You must ensure that the stated keyword is placed in front. Just like I'm doing, I place the word “business” as the second word in the phrase. A search engine would not take all the topics placed in our website, and there is also a probability that the search engine will miss quoting the title if we placed it at the last position of the title.

You also need to remember that there are a lot of web pages inside one website. Please ensure that every page is written with the different contents inside the title tags. You're still using the same keyword but just the content of the title is different. For myself, I would write “Advertisement for Business on the Internet”, and many other phrases that can be placed distinctly in each page.

2. Links

This is also an important key. You could find any famous and interesting websites and then ask their permission about placing the links to your website inside their famous webpage. You can also place the links of the great websites inside your webpage.

Thus, by this way, it is easier for the people/surfers/visitors to find your business website. More interestingly if your website is having relation in terms of the products with the name of the big, famous companies. It might be a bit hard for them to list down the links to our website, so we have to provide links to relate them closer to us.

3. Entrance

Just imagine there are a lot of streets to be used, but there is only ONE street linking to the house you're staying right now. There is a SMALL probability for the people passing through your house; maybe it is 1% only. Exclude it when the people are really planning to go to your house.

In our business, surely we will do advertisement. What's the purpose of the advertisement if only 1% of the people passing through our website, and know about it. From 1% of those, that would not guarantee that they become our customers. So, the proper way should be by developing many streets and roads that links to our house. Same thing applies to the business websites; we have to provide the entrance so that it is easier for people to visit them. Create a domain which people can visit and enter our websites.

An example: If you sell raya cookies, you can place each cookie type in a separated domain. You can build additional domains such as:

kerepek.rayacookies.com londonalmond.rayacookies.com

batangburuk.rayacookies.com pineappletart.rayacookies.com

and many more interesting names..

Thus, by any way, the can enter our websites. Either by pressing rayacookies.com or by using kerepek.rayacookies.com. Any of these are linked to our websites.

It would be more interesting if your website is listed on the lists of the search engine. Let say when people is searching for kerepek, your website name will appear. Also when they search for pineapple tart, your website is listed. So, indirectly your website promotion is escalating by using this method.

4. Media

Not every people afford to advertise by this way. Somehow if you can afford to use this method – either by printed or displayed materials, your business may grow faster. Just follow the simple steps, find any of your friend working as a reporter. You can slowly start to introduce your business to him./her and ask the person to spread about your business.

If you have extra budgets, you can try placing advertisements in magazines, newspapers, and even radio. Advertising on TV might cost you a lot. If you could bring it out on news, that would be better, but don't forget to display the URL and contact information in the advertisement.

5. Email

This would not be a problem to everyone. You can advertise even through yahoo groups, MSN groups. Everyone on the internet does this, but you have to remember that you can't send to groups that would not help growing the business; that would definitely bring your credibility down. So please make sure that the groups you are sending is recognizable and chosen. You can trace whether one group is eligible or not.

6. E-Advertising

You can try for an e-advertising. Usually a unique promotion is attractive for everyone. An e-advertising is good because the cost is cheaper. I am not making it as a promotion since I want to promote my service. But it would help much for your business because it is interesting, attractive and interactive.

7. Old/Conventional Method

You can try old method, by distributing templates, fliers and any brochures to public. This might consume a lot of energy. But actually you can already find a lot of customers through the internet.
